18. Parenting with Tweens and Teens with ADHD

Tess Connolly talks with Dana Baker-Williams about ADHD and how she dealt with life after her daughter was diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety and depression. Dana talks about this being the turning point for her passion of helping parents in this situation so they don’t feel alone and isolated.

  • Dana talks about how she followed her gut instincts as a mother and got her daughter tested after picking up on various behavioral traits that her daughter was showing at home.
  • She talks of the relief that she felt after her daughter was diagnosed but also about the lack of knowledge of knowing what to do and the overwhelm she felt 15 yrs ago.
  • Dana from this moment made it her mission to learn how to help her daughter and also to help other parents out there so they were not feeling so isolated.
  • She talks about parents feeling guilty after getting the diagnosis and strategies that can be used to help you understand what you are facing, coping strategies that can be used and how to talk and explain the diagnosis to your child.
  • Tess and Dana talk about teaching them life skills and the importance of it with children with ADHD.
  • Dana offers top tips on how to help your child and understand how they see things and ways that you can help them achieve and the connection between you and your child and how this is one of the most important things to do within your relationship.
